The Scholarship Application Process

You’re ready to begin applying. You’ve determined which scholarships you are interested in and organized them based on their deadlines. For the record, you’re farther along than many students and that much closer to earning financial assistance towards your college tuition. You are most certainly headed in the right direction.

The next step is sitting down and actually applying for the scholarships. If there are a hundred awards that you want to compete for, don’t worry about applying for them all in one day. Pressuring yourself will cause the quality of the applications and essays you submit to diminish and this will only encumber your chances of earning a scholarship. To avoid this dilemma, set goals for yourself. Decide how many thoroughly completed applications you can send in a week. Maybe it’s 20 or maybe, if the scholarships that you want to apply for require intense preparation, it’s only two. Either way, designate a goal for each week and stick to it.

Things to do when applying:

  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Work it! Think presentation, presentation, presentation.
  • Get help reviewing your application.
  • Have a teacher, coach, advisor give you feedback on your essay.
  • Follow the submission rules precisely.

College Financial Aid Advisors – Summer Scholarship Program

The CFAA Scholarship Program kicks off June 18th for a limited number of students. You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity to attend a program that will give you the inside track to private scholarships tailored to meet your personal needs.

The fee to complete the Scholarship Resume and Scholarship Profile for the 2012 Summer Scholarship Program is $250. 00. While entering the CFAA Scholarship Summer Program does not guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship, it WILL make the process easier, more efficient and streamlined.

During this 5-week program participants will meet once a week for one hour (snacks will be served). Students will work together to help each other find scholarships that highlight their unique qualities and needs. Each student will have individual coaching and guidance with Jodi Okun to complete, finalize and submit scholarship applications.

Using multiple online tools, enrolled students will complete the following steps to fulfill the College Financial Aid Advisors 2012 Summer Scholarship Program:

  • Craft a Scholarship Resume;
  • Build a Scholarship Profile for their scholarship search;
  • Create a personalized list of scholarships;
  • Develop a scholarship application timeline;
  • Work on each scholarship application, completing as many as possible;
  • Brainstorm essay topics based on their Scholarship Profile;
  • Write/edit essays for scholarship applications, as needed;
  • Submit scholarship applications.

One of the biggest mistakes students make when looking for scholarships is that they do it alone. The most successful scholarship searches happen in groups. A huge benefit of working together to find scholarships is the motivation created from one another. Sometimes the pickings are slim and students just want to give up, but being in a group brings a sense of responsibility. No one wants to disappoint the other members of the group!

Join us for the CFAA Scholarship Program this summer and take advantage of the incentives and camaraderie of working toward your goals in a fun, collaborative environment!
